Aaron Weis, a four-time Wash100 Award recipient who most recently served as chief information officer at the Department of the Navy, has been named managing director of technology at Google’s public sector arm.
He will oversee the unit’s tech strategy for the Google Cloud Platform and manage a team of public sector technologists that will work with engineering partners and customers, the company said Monday.
Three-decade government and industry veteran will report to Leigh Palmer, vice president of Google Public Sector.
As the Navy’s CIO, Weis oversaw the implementation of strategy, investments and expenditures related to digital, information management, data and cybersecurity.
Weis previously served as CIO at the Department of Defense and led DOD’s cloud and information technology modernization strategies.
His private sector experience included senior leadership positions at Axalta Coating Systems, Sensata Technologies, Tyco International and Siemens.
