Executive Mosaic is proud to name Peraton Chairman, President and CEO Stu Shea as a 2023 winner of its prestigious Wash100 Award. Shea earned his seventh Wash100 recognition this year for his leadership in integrating Peraton’s major acquisitions into a cohesive enterprise and for his continued strategy of landing significant contracts.
The Wash100 is an annual list composed of the top 100 “executives of consequence” working in the government contracting sector. The award recognizes GovCon leaders for their innovation, achievement, reliability, vision and contributions to government missions, and it serves as an important distinction highlighting the executives to watch in the coming year.

“Stu has taken the helm of Veritas-backed Peraton, which he successfully integrated with Perspecta, and he now holds the reins of one of the top GovCon firms serving the intelligence agencies,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award.
Garrettson continued, “Stu has built consensus and a culture of winning as he has amalgamated many businesses into one mosaic moving in lockstep as a forceful integrator of people, companies and ideas.”
Peraton’s and Shea’s momentum in the GovCon market in 2023 builds upon the foundation of successful acquisitions and integrations completed in the last couple of years. In 2021, Peraton’s parent company, Veritas Capital, acquired Perspecta and Northrop Grumman’s information technology and mission support services business in a two-month period.
When Executive Mosaic spoke with Shea in an exclusive video interview in August 2022, he credited the success of the integration largely to the enterprise’s ability to move with “a great degree of speed,” and to the people who define the company’s culture.
“Most companies would take 18 months to integrate what we’ve done in seven,” Shea shared in conversation with Executive Mosaic.
“What we did is we focused on the emotional part — the missions of consequence, the things that are important to everybody, the culture of the company, the representation of a diverse set of employees, how we wanted to take care of people during Covid. All of that became a glue that held the fabric of the company together,” Shea added.
His strategy at the helm of Peraton played a pivotal role in the company’s recognition as a 2022 U.S. Best Managed Company by Deloitte Private and the Wall Street Journal.
”We have put in place the right strategy, the right people and the right rules to stand alongside well-run companies spanning every major American business sector,” commented Shea.
In addition to building a strong culture, integrating multiple disparate businesses and perpetuating company growth, Shea is kicking off 2023 with key contract wins for Peraton.
Peraton won a $2.25 billion contract in January 2023 to support background investigations for the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency.
“As the incumbent for this contract and bringing over 19 years of experience as the leading industry provider, Peraton is proud to continue our relationship with the largest cleared network of nationwide background investigator services,” Shea said of the win.
One month later, Peraton landed a 10-year, $4 billion follow-on contract to manufacture components, software, laboratory equipment and other items for the U.S. Navy. The Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services, or CANES, program supports the consolidation and replacement of currently afloat networks.
Going forward, Shea said Peraton will be investing its time and resources into government missions that truly matter.
“We focus on what we call next-generation national security. We want to focus on missions of consequence — things that matter to people,” he told Executive Mosaic.
Executive Mosaic congratulates Stu Shea and the entire Peraton organization on their 2023 Wash100 win, and we look forward to the contributions they will make in the vital GovCon ecosystem over the next year and beyond.
