Executive Mosaic is honored to unveil ManTech President and CEO Matt Tait in the 2023 edition of the Wash100 — a prestigious roster of company and agency leaders with influence in the government contracting arena.
Tait, a first-time Wash100 inductee, was appointed to the chief executive post in October 2022 after two years and three months as chief operating officer and is now steering Herndon, Virginia-based ManTech through its next steps as a privately held company.
“Filling the shoes of his predecessor, Kevin Phillips, will require absolute focus and attention to detail — both are qualities Matt has demonstrated time and time again,” commented Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the esteemed Wash100 Award. “Having invested nearly five years guiding ManTech and utilizing his more than 20 years of experience at Accenture, he looks as close to a sure bet as ManTech could hope for,” Garrettson added.
In September 2022, ManTech opened a new chapter in the company’s 54-year existence, which includes two decades as a publicly traded company, upon the completion of its sale to The Carlyle Group in a $4.2 billion go-private transaction.
“As ManTech begins its next chapter in partnership with Carlyle, I am confident that Matt brings the executive skills and experience to continue advancing our business with an ever-present commitment to excellence,” said Phillips, a six-time Wash100 winner who serves as chairman of the board of directors.
Tait helped orchestrate that deal and the ownership transition process. Approximately one year ago, the U.S. Navy veteran also led ManTech through its acquisition of digital and systems engineering services provider Gryphon Technologies for $350 million in cash.
As CEO, Tait leads the 9,800-employee global organization aiming to bring its technological capabilities to the federal government’s national security programs.
The former naval officer spearheaded efforts to implement ManTech’s Bringing Digital to the Mission strategy across its intelligence, federal civilian and defense businesses in the past four years.
Prior to his COO appointment in July 2020, Tait was president of the ManTech Mission Solutions & Services group for two years. He joined the company in June 2018 after a 20-year career at Accenture and is vice chairman of the Operation Renewed Hope Foundation’s board of directors.
During the fourth quarter of 2022, ManTech disclosed four defense contract awards worth $1.4 billion combined, including an $862 million task order to help maintain the U.S. Army’s mission-critical systems and vehicles over a five-year period.
