Investment Firm Highlander Partners Acquires Drone Maker DZYNE

Private investment firm Highlander Partners has acquired DZYNE Technologies, a developer of unmanned aircraft systems for domestic and international defense and government customers, for an undisclosed sum.

DZYNE’s drone offering uses proprietary artificial intelligence technology and is equipped with advanced autonomous navigation, full-motion video and video processing and targeting and tracking features, Highlander said Thursday.

The deal represents Highlander’s second acquisition related to the UAS market since it launched High Point Aerotechnologies in May to drive investment in the evolving drone marketplace.

“DZYNE, with its highly innovative programs and exquisite technology, is a unique and disruptive force in the emergent UAS industry. Highlander is well-equipped to support its many high-growth initiatives and capture a very significant market opportunity,” said Ben Slater, partner and chief operating officer at Highlander.

Houlihan Lokey and SheppardMullin respectively provided financial and legal advisory services to DZYNE on the deal, while Baker McKenzie acted as Highlander’s legal counsel and Regions Bank served as its financial adviser.

The transaction comes more than a month after Highlander acquired Liteye Systems, a developer of counter-unmanned aircraft system platforms for defense and national security applications.
