Estonia has closed a $200 million deal to purchase six M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launchers, manufactured by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), along with associated equipment and support services from the U.S. government.
The Estonian defense investment agency said deliveries of the systems are scheduled to begin in 2024 under the contract signed with the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
The deal comes less than five months after the State Department approved Estonia’s request to procure HIMARS launchers and missile system pods under a potential $500 million foreign military sales deal.
Estonia aims to use the weapon systems to boost its indirect fire capability and strengthen interoperability with international allies.
The European country also purchased ammunition, communications platforms, as well as training, logistics and life cycle services through the government-to-government transaction.
