Mitre has received a $486.1 million cost-reimbursement-option contract from the U.S. Air Force to continue serving as administrator of a federally funded research and development organization.
The Department of Defense said Monday Mitre will support the National Security Engineering Center through Sept. 30, 2023, and conduct contract work in Bedford, Massachusetts; McLean, Virginia; and other locations within and outside the continental U.S.
According to the nonprofit, NSEC is responsible for providing the defense and intelligence communities with research, engineering and analytical capabilities needed to keep the U.S. apace with adversaries in a competitive technology development and weapon innovation race.
Some of NSEC’s contributions since its establishment are IC’s first secure intranet, the U.S. air-defense system and an airborne ground surveillance, battle management, command and control aircraft.
The Air Force is obligating $20,3 million in foreign military sales funds at the time of award.
In 2021, Mitre was also awarded an option contract for continued NSEC management.
