Lloyd Austin, secretary of the Department of Defense and a 2022 Wash100 Award winner, and other DOD leaders hosted the Defense Innovation Board’s meeting on Monday and joined DIB Chair Michael Bloomberg in welcoming the seven newly named board members.
Established in 2016, DIB provides department leaders with independent expert advice on how DOD can use talent, technology and commercial best practices to advance experimentation and innovation, the Pentagon said Monday.
Bloomberg, founder and CEO of media conglomerate Bloomberg and former mayor of New York City, was sworn in as chair of DIB in June.
The newly appointed members of DIB are:
- Gilda Barabino, president at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering
- Mac Thornberry, former chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and board member at CAE
- Michael Mullen, a retired U.S. Navy admiral, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and chief of naval operations
- Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, co-founder of Inflection AI, partner at Greylock
- Ryan Swann, chief data analytics officer at Vanguard
- Susan Gordon, member of the boards of CACI International (NYSE: CACI), Avantus Federal, Mitre and BlackSky (NYSE: BKSY)
- William Roper, distinguished professor at Georgia Tech, senior adviser at McKinsey and Co., former assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics
Gordon and Roper are previous Wash100 awardees.
