In the last three years, the U.S. health care system has undergone dramatic changes, catalyzed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the urgent need for advanced technology integration and the shifting health needs of American civilians.
In March 2020, at the onset of the pandemic, demand skyrocketed for health care services like contact centers, claims processing and clinical support. This spike in demand drove major revenue growth for companies like Maximus, which saw a 19 percent revenue boost from $2.9 billion in 2019 to nearly $3.5 billion in 2020.
Now, health care leaders are using lessons learned from the pandemic to inform the future of the still-booming sector as demand continues to change. Bruce Caswell, president and CEO of Maximus and four-time Wash100 Award winner, spoke about the health care industryâs shifting needs, priorities and new technologies in Executive Mosaicâs latest video interview.
According to Caswell, Maximusâ business strategy for the future of health hinges on three main efforts: increasing the importance of clinical assessments, solving public health infrastructure issues that arose as a result of the pandemic, and addressing non-COVID health issues that may have been pushed aside while pandemic-related problems took precedence.
In carrying out these thrusts, Caswell said technology is playing a critical role. Agile development, hybrid cloud environments and information intelligence â which leverages tech like artificial intelligence and machine learning to perform data analytics â are some of Maximusâ key technology offerings that are helping the company to accelerate federal health agenciesâ modernization goals while prioritizing the customer experience, or CX.
“Digital transformation capabilities and the ability to significantly improve the customer experience, but to deliver it with a flexible model that can respond to the changing needs of government is in more demand now than ever,” Caswell said in conversation with Executive Mosaicâs Summer Myatt.
Caswell also discussed where the healthcare market in the U.S. is headed now, his advice for GovCon community members pursuing executive-level roles, federal IT priorities and more.
