The State Department has approved Kuwait’s request to purchase operational and training ammunition for M1A2K tanks, related equipment and services under a potential $250 million foreign military sales agreement.
General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) will be the principal contractor in the proposed FMS transaction, which will enable Kuwait to support the modernization of its tank fleet and continued use of M1A2 Abrams tanks to counter existing and future regional threats, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.
The proposed sale includes Cartridge M80 Ball/M62 Tracer 7.62mm 4/1 linked; Cartridge MK211 4 Armor Piercing Incendiary .50 Cal 4/1 linked; Cartridge M903/M962 Saboted Light Armor Penetrator-Tracer .50 Cal 4/1 linked; Cartridge KE-W A1 Armor-Piercing, Fin-Stabilized, Discarding Sabot-Tracer 120mm; and Cartridge, Insensitive Munition High Explosive Tracer 120mm.
The contractor will also provide support and test equipment, spare and repair parts, technical support, government and contractor engineering, program assistance and logistical support services.
Kuwait will also use the equipment to defend against land-based threats and improve its capability to protect key land-based infrastructure and border regions.
DSCA said it notified Congress of the proposed sale Tuesday.
