Lisa Costa, chief technology and innovation officer for the U.S. Space Force, was presented her 2022 Wash100 Award by Executive Mosaic CEO Jim Garrettson during a recent visit to its office in the Pentagon.
Executive Mosaic is thrilled to recognize Lisa Costa with her first Wash100 Award, the highest honor in all of government contracting (GovCon), for her visionary leadership to drive the development of the next generation of agile leaders in the information age to address the latest and most significant infrastructure challenges for the new service branch.
Lisa Costa brings more than 30 years of leadership and experience in key critical areas, including emerging technologies, strategy, corporate governance, research and development, cybersecurity as well as public-private partnerships and cultural transformation.
As the first permanent Chief Technology and Innovation Officer (CTIO) for the U.S. Space Force, Lisa Costa is responsible for unlocking and harnessing innovation to leverage increased speed and advantage. Her leadership and efforts have been very critical to the advancement of cutting-edge technologies for the recently established Space Force.
During the Department of Defense: Digital Modernization Forum hosted by GovCon Wire Events back in January, Lisa Costa acted as a keynote speaker to discuss how important digital engineering will be for the U.S Space Force and other service branches to invest and develop new capabilities.
“We have to embrace all of these digital tools to make sure that the domain stays secure and stable and accessible, not just for the current generation, but for the next,” Costa emphasized during her keynote address.
In addition, Costa explained how the U.S. Space Force is using digital twin technology to accelerate the procurement process and better secure the space domain in the current era of rapid growth. She further discussed how digital engineering and modeling tools are helping the Space Force to get ahead of the curve in the testing and evaluation phases of new systems and assets.
“I can do operational tests and evaluation, and I can actually start to develop tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) around that asset before I even send out a request for proposal to industry,” Costa added.
Executive Mosaic is glad to recognize the U.S. Space Force and Lisa Costa as a 2022 Wash100 Award recipient. As a winner of the most coveted award in GovCon, she has demonstrated an elite level of accomplishment and contribution to the GovCon community that is expected to continue in the coming year following her first Wash100 Award win.
