David Appel, most recently vice president of command and control digital solutions at Raytheon Technologies’ (NYSE: RTX) intelligence and space business, has joined Amazon’s (Nasdaq: AMZN) cloud computing arm as VP of national security, GovCon Wire has learned.
He announced his move to Amazon Web Services in a LinkedIn post published Sunday.
In his previous role, Appel oversaw an organization with more than 2,000 employees focused on building, operating, modernizing and sustaining C2, weather and ground systems while driving the adoption of artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber, DevSecOps and Agile development.
Appel spent more than two decades at Raytheon prior to its merger with United Technologies Corp. in 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile.
His 26-year career at Raytheon Technologies’ predecessor company included time as VP of C2 digital solutions, senior director of mission support and modernization for mission systems and senior director of surveillance, range and infrastructure solutions.
