The U.S. Navy has ordered an additional two MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft systems from Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) under a $248.2 million contract modification.
Northrop will build the autonomously operated vehicles as part of the program’s lot five low-rate initial production, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
The service branch will use its fiscal 2022 aircraft procurement funds to pay for the new order and expects the company to finish services in February 2027.
The modification comes after Northrop was awarded a $40.6 million order from the Navy to conduct a full-scale fatigue test and an effect-of-defect assessment of the Triton UAS.
