Fortinet Establishes Public Sector Advisory Council, Names Gary Locke as Chair

Fortinet (Nasdaq: FTNT) has formed an advisory council to provide public sector organizations with insights in support of their cybersecurity efforts, and appointed Gary Locke, former secretary of the Department of Commerce, as its chairperson.

The Public Sector Advisory Council will help local governments and other public institutions address cybersecurity challenges that risk classified information theft, government operation disruption and critical infrastructure attack, among others, the company said Tuesday.

Ken Xie, founder, chairman and CEO of Fortinet, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting threat response of the public sector and private industry through smart policy insights and partnerships.

Aside from Locke, Fortinet PSAC is comprised of:

  • Rachelle Chong, a regulatory lawyer, technology strategist and former commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission
  • James Clapper, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant general, former director of national intelligence and two-time Wash100 Award recipient
  • Peter Jennings, a former executive director of national security think tank Australian Strategic Policy Institute
  • Sir Richard Shirreff, a veteran British army officer with experience serving in the country’s defense ministry
  • Suzanne Spaulding, a member of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission and former undersecretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate at the Department of Homeland Security

“As cyber adversaries continue to threaten our digital economies and critical infrastructure globally, it is vital that organizations are prepared to defend against the growing cyber threat,” said Xie.
