Alexander Gates, a four-decade military and civil service veteran, has been named chief research officer at Arlington, Virginia-based cybersecurity company Shift5.
Gates will manage a threat intelligence portfolio designed to help transportation and defense system operators gain visibility of secure operational technology networks, Shift5 said Thursday.
His responsibilities will also include overseeing product security strategy and knowledge management functions.
He previously served as senior adviser for cyberspace at DOE and head of the department’s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response.
Prior to DOE, Gates worked at the National Security Agency where he led the establishment of a threat operations center and managed security teams.
