CBP’s Thomas Overacker to Headline Border Protection Forum for Potomac Officers Club

Thomas Overacker, executive director of cargo and conveyance security at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, will headline the Potomac Officers Club’s next virtual event to discuss how the agency is using technology in efforts to strengthen security along borders.

He leads the CBP’s cargo processing, enforcement and trade operations at ports of entry and centers of excellence, and he provides oversight for procurement and deployment of non-intrusive inspection equipment.

The Department of Homeland Security’s science and technology directorate has multiple programs that seek to help CBP fortify borders on the ground, at sea and in the air. President Joe Biden said during his State of the Union address that the government has deployed new technology such as modern scanners to detect illicit activity such as drug smuggling.

Overacker’s opening keynote address to the Potomac Officers Club event on March 15 will be followed by a panel discussion of how to balance speed and efficiency and capability in tech acquisition efforts.
