Tim Kopra, a former NASA astronaut who became commander of the International Space Station, has joined the U.S. proxy organization of OneWeb to serve as president and drive its growth efforts.
He most recently worked as the vice president for robotics and space operations of Canadian space technology firm MDA, OneWeb Technologies said Thursday.
Kopra, who was with NASA for about 15 years, is now responsible for leading OneWeb Technologies as it delivers satellite communication offerings to government and commercial clients.
The 25-year veteran of the U.S. Army is currently the civilian aide to the Army secretary for the East Texas region.
â[Kopra’s] background in space and robotic operations, along with his vast leadership experience, make him a valuable addition to the OneWeb Technologies team,â said Bob Roe, CEO of OneWeb Technologies.
