Mark Testoni, CEO of SAP National Security Services, has been selected to the 2022 edition of the Wash100, the seventh time he’s won the prestigious award in the nine-year history of Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of executives with staying power and influence in the government contracting arena.
Executive Mosaic CEO Jim Garrettson noted Testoni’s selection to the Wash100 last year as a recognition of his leadership in stewarding the growth of an independently run subsidiary of German software conglomerate SAP that supports U.S. government customers in national security technology and cloud environments.
Testoni, who has led NS2 since the business was formed through the combination of SAP Government Support and Services and its Sybase federal division in 2012, has been a vocal proponent of public-private cooperation in the cybersecurity landscape.
In a June 2021 guest piece for TechCrunch, he pointed out a critical opportunity for agencies and companies to unite against cyber war.
“When you look at the history of war, the advantage has always gone to those who innovate first. With respect to cyberwarfare, the solution does not lie solely in advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing or blockchain. The most powerful development in today’s war against cyberterrorism might be as simple as what we all learned in preschool: the value of sharing and cooperation,” Testoni said in his joint commentary with SAP NS2 General Counsel Joseph Moreno.
Both executives said regulators should ask cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets to help the law enforcement community track down criminals who use the digital payment system to carry out illicit transactions.
“Law enforcement, the military and the intelligence community should be aggressively working to make it so difficult, so unsafe and so unprofitable for cyberterrorists to operate that they would not dare attempt another attack against American industry or critical infrastructure,” they added.
Testoni told Data Center Knowledge in August he viewed the $1 trillion infrastructure bill as one way to advance cybersecurity partnerships between the public and private sector organizations.
In the context of fighting ransomware, the seven-time Wash100 winner believes education is key to protect organizations from such malware attack. “The most important thing we can do is educate our companies and the individual because each of us, as an employee, as an individual in our homes has a tremendous impact on cybersecurity,” he told TechTarget in September.
NS2 also maintains a cloud portfolio designed for government and regulated customers. In March 2021, the subsidiary unveiled plans to bring the SAP Ariba suite of procurement and supply chain management products to U.S. agencies, defense and aerospace, utilities and other regulated industries.
Two months later, the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program’s Joint Authorization Board added the SAP NS2 Cloud Platform to the FedRAMP Marketplace to provide agencies an integration platform to build, deploy and manage cloud-based applications.
Testoni, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is the driving force behind the formation of the nonprofit SAP Serves organization that provides information technology training and employment assistance to former military service members.
