A General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) subsidiary has secured a $108.2 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to repair, maintain and modernize the USS Hartford attack submarine.
Electric Boat will perform this work in Groton, Connecticut, through June as part of an engineered overhaul effort under the “Smart Start” program, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
The Navy will obligate a combined amount of $50.4 million from the branch’s operation and maintenance and other procurement funds, with $47.2 million of the initial funds expiring at the end of fiscal year 2022.
General Dynamics’ shipbuilding business initially secured a $22.2 million modification for similar tasks in January.
USS Hartford, designated SSN-768, is a Los Angeles-class submarine that the Navy commissioned in December 1994.
