A Fincantieri subsidiary has received a potential five-year, $78.7 million contract to help the U.S. Navy maintain Avenger-class mine countermeasure ships.
Fincantieri Marine Systems North America will assign technicians and provide program management support to the service branch’s planned corrective and maintenance efforts for MCM-1 vessels, the Department of Defense said Friday.
Naval Supply Systems Command awarded the contract on a sole-source basis and the service branch will obligate $1.8 million in operation and maintenance funds that will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
The contract has a base period of performance valued at $14.3 million and includes four option years that will push the completion date to March 2027 if exercised.
Work will be performed in Manama, Bahrain, and Sasebo, Japan.
The USS Avenger employs a remotely-controlled mine detonating device intended to destroy moored and bottom mines, according to the Navy.
