David Constable, CEO and a board member of Fluor (NYSE: FLR), has been appointed by the board of directors to serve as executive chairman of the Irving, Texas-based engineering, procurement and construction company.
He will continue to hold the CEO title and succeed the retiring Alan Boeckmann, who will not seek reelection in May, the company said Tuesday.
Boeckmann, who started his career with Fluor in 1974, has held leadership roles at the company for nearly four decades. He served as the company’s CEO and chairman between 2002 and 2011 and non-executive chairman from 2011 to 2012. He rejoined Fluor’s board in 2019 to serve as executive chairman.
Constable said Boeckmann will continue to sit on the board of Fluor-backed NuScale Power, which agreed to merge with blank check company Spring Valley Acquisition (Nasdaq: SV) in December through a transaction that would take NuScale public.
Constable assumed the CEO position at Fluor in January 2021. He first joined Fluor in 1982 and held roles of increasing responsibility within the company through 2011. He returned to the company in 2019 as a board member and served as chair of the commercial strategies and operational risk committee.
He was CEO and executive director of Sasol from 2011 to 2016. He sits on the board of ABB (NYSE: ABB) and is former member of the boards of Anadarko Petroleum and Rio Tinto. He also served as a senior adviser at Cerberus Capital Management.
