The U.S. subsidiary of Norway-based defense company Nammo will manufacture variants and components of the M72 Light Assault Weapon under a $498.1 million full-rate production contract from the U.S. Army.
Nammo Defense Systems will provide the rocket launchers to soldiers for use in their shoulder-launched munition training activity, the Department of Defense said Monday.
According to the company, M72 is a single-use launch platform that military personnel could carry to strike tanks and other targets while dismounted.
Nammo, the only bidder to the Army’s solicitation for the work, will perform tasks at locations to be determined through upcoming task orders.
The branch expects contract services to finish by Dec. 19, 2026.
