Austal’s U.S. subsidiary has won a new contract to create a baseline design and conduct trade studies in support of the U.S. Navy’s Next Generation Logistics Ship program.
Austal USA said it will act as the prime contractor for a new class of medium vessels intended to help the Navy equip naval assets such as small surface combatants and light amphibious warships above water.
The NGLS fleet will be designed to support refueling, rearming and resupply operations and the award comes more than two months after the company disclosed a potential $385.1 million contract to build up to five Towing, Salvage and Rescue ships for the same military branch.
