Lou Von Thaer, president and CEO of Battelle, was presented his 2021 Wash100 Award by Executive Mosaic CEO Jim Garrettson on Tuesday. This marks the third consecutive year and sixth time overall that Von Thaer has received a Wash100 Award.
Executive Mosaic recognized Von Thaer with the most prestigious award in all of government contracting (GovCon) for his significant contributions to the federal landscape, including his drive for innovation in COVID-19 research and development programs as well as his leadership in the pandemic’s relief efforts for first responders and others.
Von Thaer’s leadership guided Battelle to launch new programs and provide emergency support for health care workers and first responders in order to address the most significant challenges brought on by the recent pandemic.
For instance, Battelle sought and secured an emergency use authorization from the FDA for its Critical Care Decontamination System (CCDS), which can decontaminate up to 80,000 respirator masks on a daily basis per system using concentrated vapor phase hydrogen peroxide.
“I want to thank the FDA team for their professionalism and help in authorizing the use of our technology at this critical moment for our nation,” said Von Thaer. “Everybody who has worked on this project shares the same goal of protecting first responders and healthcare workers who are at the front lines of the pandemic.”
In addition, Battelle announced the launch of AmplifyBio, a new Battelle-backed company, back in May 2021 to develop and perform research and development of next-generation therapies, including cell and gene therapies.
