Lumen Technologies (NYSE: LUMN) will operate and maintain dark fiber infrastructure for the Defense Department under a potential seven-year, $196.5 million contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency.
An initial task order under the single-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract will cover the $1,000 minimum guarantee, DOD said Monday.
The company will manage dark fiber and commercial facilities within the continental U.S. through Sept. 30, 2028. Dark fiber refers to unused fiber-optic cables that can be leased to maintain or expand an organization’s data transmission capacity.
The award comes one month after Lumen appointed Dave Young, a two-time Wash100 Award winner, to the newly created role of senior vice president of strategic sales and promoted Zain Ahmed to succeed Young in his former role as SVP for public sector business.
