The U.S. Air Force is enacting major digital transformation initiatives in an attempt to streamline and optimize its acquisition process. Such as incorporating digital engineering, agile software development and open system architectures that will provide better access to emerging technology, reduce acquisition timelines.
During Potomac Officers Club’s 2021 Air Force Acquisition Forum, influential figures in the federal government and commercial sector will meet and discuss crucial technological and material needs of the Air Force.
Darlene Costello, acting assistant secretary of the U.S. Air Force for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, will deliver the Forum’s keynote address. She will provide her perspective and priorities on the Air Force’s relationship with private industry and notable accomplishments of the service branch’s acquisition process and culture.

As acting assistant secretary, Costello provides expert advice and guidance on Air Force acquisition programs and procurements. She is in charge of developing and executing policies and procedures in support of the Air Force’s acquisition system. Correspondingly, she oversees a $40 billion Air Force research and development, test, production and modernization program portfolio.
Costello has worked in various acquisition positions of high responsibility and all levels of command. She held positions as a project engineer, assistant design manager and program manager in the U.S. Navy.
She was also selected for the Commander’s Development Program with assignments in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Naval Warfare, the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Ship Programs, the Office of the Director for Expeditionary WarfareAmphibious Warfare Branch and the Program Executive Office for Aircraft Carriers.
Costello also worked as a staff specialist for Naval Warfare, Strategic and Tactical Systems, within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics.
