GovConWire Events to Feature Sonny Hashmi As Keynote Speaker at Federal Acquisition Forum on April 15th

Federal acquisition processes must be on the cutting edge of technology to stay relevant and efficient. Federal leaders have worked to modernize their acquisition systems so as to increase the adoption rate of innovative solutions, including information technology (IT), cloud and other emerging technologies. Agencies must continue to implement new acquisition and procurement methods to remain effective in the modern competitive landscape.

During GovCon Wire’s Innovation and Modernization in Federal Acquisitions Forum, notable federal leaders will meet to discuss new modernization priorities, innovative solutions and future acquisition plans.

The forum will feature 2021 Wash100 Award recipient Sonny Hashmi as keynote speaker. Hashmi is the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) commissioner. He is responsible for delivering over $75 billion of products, services, and solutions that assist federal government organizations in efficiently and economically accomplishing their missions.

Before serving as GSA’s FAS commissioner, Hashmi was the managing director of global government strategy at Box. He worked alongside federal, state, local and international state organizations on mobility strategy and cloud integration in that role.

Hashmi has also served as GSA’s chief information officer and chief technology officer. During his tenures and CIO and CTO, he led the Administration’s IT modernization campaign, cloud computing adoption and performance measurement roadmap for the federal government.

As GSA’s FAS commissioner, Hashmi, has driven numerous modernization and technology advancements. One of the most successful was GSA’s announcement that it will re-award its 2nd Generation Information Technology (2GIT) Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPAs), which have an estimated value of $5.5 billion over five years.

The 2GIT solution spearheaded by Hashmi will extend the benefits of a Best-in-Class (BIC) IT Products purchasing solution to the federal government. It will provide reliable, flexible, fast and efficient ways to procure innovative solutions for complex IT hardware needs. The BPAs have and will continue to streamline the process for purchasing IT hardware and software products.

The Forum will also host an expert panel moderated by Scott Ulrey of DARPA, featuring Lesley Field of the Office of Management and Budget, Chris Hamm of GSA and John Tenaglia of the Department of Defense.
