Report: Biden Eyes Former Senator Bill Nelson for NASA Administrator Role

The White House intends to nominate Bill Nelson, a former senator from Florida, to serve as NASA administrator, SpaceNews reported Thursday.

Sources said the Biden administration is expected to announce Nelson’s nomination as early as Friday, March 19.

Nelson, a Democrat who served three terms in the Senate, was ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee and helped develop a NASA authorization act in 2010 that backed the continued development of the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System and supported the Commercial Crew Program.

In February, reports emerged that Nelson was being considered as a nominee for the top post at the space agency.
