The Potomac Officers Club has confirmed four panelists for its 2021 Industrial Space Defense Summit on Tuesday to share their insights on critical space and defense missions.
The virtual event’s panel discussion, “How Does the DOD Leverage Commercialization of Space,” will feature Col. Russell Teehan, portfolio architect director at the U.S. Space Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center; Payam Banazadeh, CEO of Capella Space; Shayn Hawthorne, space technology leader in Amazon Web Services‘ aerospace and satellite solutions division; and Rich Aves, executive vice president of space and geospatial solutions at Parsons.
In his current position, Teehan leads an approximately 100-member team that conducts architecture trades to inform the Air Force’s space enterprise architecture acquisition, design and integration efforts.
Banazadeh, a former systems engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, established Capella Space in 2016 with the intent to provide Earth observation data through a constellation of synthetic aperture radar satellites.
At AWS, Hawthorne focuses on helping government and commercial space customers worldwide to leverage the company’s technology and service offerings to manage satellite operations.
Aves supervises a group consisting of more than 1,000 professionals who work to provide hardware and software platforms to defense, intelligence community and commercial sectors.
