Executive Mosaic, the leading provider in connecting, promoting and branding government and government contracting (GovCon) executives of consequence, is pleased to name Dave Levy, vice president of Amazon Web Services‘ (AWS) federal business, as a recipient of the 2021 Wash100 Award for continuing focus on cloud efforts, cyber and driving the development of emerging technology capabilities across the federal sector.
Levy has received the most prestigious honor in all of government contracting (GovCon) for the fourth consecutive year. His three previous Wash100 Awards were attributed to his leadership in customer relations, cloud-related efforts and information technology modernization in support of AWSâ government clients.
AWS continues to provide cloud-based services to government agencies, having received a contract from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Dec. 2019 for an initiative aimed at making environmental data available for public access through the company’s cloud platform.
âAs customers gather more data about Earth, cloud offers new opportunities to understand our world and contribute to a sustainable future,â said Levy. âWith initiatives like the Big Data Project, researchers are leveraging AWS services to lower the barriers to affordable, on demand, and scalable data analysis.â he added.
Another contract was awarded to AWS in July 2020 by the U.S. Census Bureau for use of the company’s cloud technology to enhance the data collection process as part of the agency’s decennial count.
In Dec. 2020, AWS and Deloitte launched a multiyear strategic collaboration aimed at assisting government and enterprise customers in their cloud migration and application modernization initiatives.
Both companies look to deliver flexible managed service offerings and increased cost savings through an automated end-to-end value delivery model. Aside from cloud-centered efforts, Levy has also put emphasis on information exchange and cybersecurity.
Speaking at a Ford School of Public Policy-hosted virtual event in Sept. 2020, Levy pointed to a need for law enforcement and private organizations to employ an information exchange process that is based on policy to address cyber threats.
He cited AWS’ use of “shared responsibility model,” which means that the company has no direct access to its customers’ personal data, and assured that authorities will have AWS’ help with mission-related information.
Levy also shared his perspective on cybersecurity challenges and opportunities during a pre-summit interview for a yearly cybersecurity event. “A whole-of-society approach with sufficient funding from the government would help modernize public sector systems and bring them up to par,” he said.
The AWS executive added that increased use of commercial cloud infrastructure is needed to update legacy networks and IT systems.
The company is also invested in helping the government fight the cloud infrastructure pandemic. AWS is part of a consortium launched in March to expedite research into COVID-19 through high performance computing.
âTools including deep learning and artificial intelligence are reducing time to insight for researchers around the world,â said Levy, who also oversees nonprofit and health care practices at AWS.
The four-time Wash100 has been with AWS since May 2017. Prior to joining the company, he spent more than 12 years serving as head of U.S. government sales at Apple where he led a team responsible for assisting the government in its adoption of mobile technologies.
âDave Levy is well known for his problem solving approach to bring solutions to his customers and his AWS team,â said said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award. âAfter 12 years as the head of Apple Government Sales, Dave has the ability to bring the elegance of world-class design to what he does at Amazon.â
Executive Mosaic congratulates AWS and Dave Levy for his 2021 Wash100 Award. His vision, leadership and drive to expand the company and its presence in the government contracting sector has cemented him as an executive who could be a significant influence in 2021.
