Executive Mosaic is pleased to announce that Roger Krone, chairman and CEO of Leidos, has been recognized with the 2021 Wash100 Award for his pursuit of major acquisitions and competitive contracts that have driven company growth and cemented Leidos’ position as a leader in the federal sector.
This marks Krone’s eighth consecutive Wash100 Award, the most prestigious award in all of government contracting (GovCon), making him the all-time leading recipient of the Wash100 Award in its eight-year history. He was the obvious choice to lead this year’s Wash100 profiles.
Krone received his 2020 Wash100 Award for his leadership and the acquisitions of Dynetics as well as L3Harris security detection and automation businesses.
He has continued to successfully integrate Dynetics and L3Harris security detection and automation businesses into the foundation of Leidos, securing valuable contracts under the newly acquired companies. Krone has a history of strong management and seamless integration when it comes to acquisitions.
Leidos finalized its purchase of Dynetics for approximately $1.65 billion in cash in Feb. 2020. The acquisition has helped Leidos expand its technical capabilities, strengthen its presence in defense, civil and intelligence markets and advance opportunities within the company’s Innovations Center.
Most recently, Leidos entered into an acquisition agreement with 1901 Group, a leading provider for managed IT services and cloud solutions in the private and public market in Dec. 2020. With this new acquisition, Leidos will expand its cloud, IT services and digital modernization capabilities.
“We are pleased to welcome 1901 Group’s team of digital transformation experts who share Leidos’ commitment to making the world safer, healthier and more efficient through IT,” said Krone. “Leidos and 1901 Group both strive to provide customers with progressive, agile and secure solutions. Together, we will be better positioned to continue successfully providing these critical solutions while navigating growing trends in the IT marketplace.”
The acquisition will allow Leidos to respond to growing customer demand for more fixed-priced, utility-based business arrangements, as the company moves into the new year. Leidos will also leverage 1901 Group’s proven IT, cloud factories and fully-integrated service delivery platforms.
Not only has Krone led Leidos to these competitive acquisitions, but his leadership has also led to major, billion-dollar contract awards to further expand the company’s rapidly growing footprint in the marketplace. Prior to announcing the acquisition of 1901 Group, Leidos reported that the company was awarded a $1.76 billion contract with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Under the follow-on contract, Leidos will continue to integrate and implement National Airspace System (NAS) modernization programs. The NAS Integration Support Contract IV indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract has a four-year base period and a pair of three-year options.
According to solicitation documents, work includes system upgrade, technology development, planning and implementation support on behalf of designated FAA organizations. In addition to Leidos’ win of the major FAA contract, the company has been awarded spots on $1 billion+ contract vehicles.
Also in Dec. 2020, Leidos won a position on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) $1.5 billion Automated Litigation Support Contract. Leidos was one of five companies selected for the award, and will work to provide administrative, professional, logistics, technical labor, technologies, materials, supplies and facilities needed throughout the litigation process.
Leidos has also worked with the U.S. Air Force under the $14 billion Aircraft Maintenance Contract Vehicle to provide organizational-level aircraft maintenance services. Leidos reported that it was one of eight companies selected for the competitive contract vehicle.
Contractors will compete for task orders to help the branch maintain aerial vehicles except tiltrotor, rotary-wing and remotely piloted aircraft. Nineteen offers were submitted to the AF Installation Contracting Center for the Aircraft Maintenance Enterprise Solution indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract via a competitive acquisition process.
Leidos’ massive contract awards and valuable acquisitions have expanded the company, even throughout the difficulties of 2020. The company’s financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2020 reported revenues of $3.24 billion, compared to $2.84 billion in the prior-year quarter, reflecting a 14.4 percent increase.
“Leidos’ third quarter results reflect the hard work and dedication of our employees and close collaboration with our customers as we provided continuity of operations while accelerating our pandemic response plan,” Krone said.
Moving into the new year, Krone has used Leidos’ momentum from 2020 to spearhead expansion strategies. In Feb. 2021, the company secured a potential $2 billion contract to provide non-medical counseling to military service members and their families through the Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) program.
“For over 50 years, Leidos has been proud to serve the military and veteran community,” said Krone. “We are excited to expand this legacy by supporting the MFLC program, service members and their families as they navigate the challenges and joys of military life.”
Executive Mosaic congratulates Roger Krone and Leidos for his 2021 Wash100 Award. Krone has won a Wash100 Award each year of the award’s history, which demonstrates an unparalleled commitment to the GovCon sector and the continued excellence of its top members.
