A division within Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) will help the U.S. Navy conceptualize new submarine systems under a potential $117.3 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract contract.
HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding business will perform research and development work, design studies and technology integration for future demonstrations, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
The R&D contract has an initial value of $13.4 million and also covers on-site engineering, technical and logistics support.
DOD noted the performance period would extend through September 2025 if all options are exercised.
Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity and will obligate $285,000 at the time of award from the branch’s R&D, test and evaluation funds for fiscal years 2020 and 2021.
