A joint venture between Alberici and Mortenson will continue to help the U.S. Navy modernize a dry docking structure at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in Georgia under a $359.7M contract modification.
The JV will perform concrete repairs, overhaul steel caissons and update power distribution, fire detection, alarm and chilled water systems as part of the award, the Department of Defense said Friday.
DOD noted the modification increases the contract’s total cumulative value to $554.5M and will also include the modernization of the dry dock’s control and auxiliary seawater equipment.
According to the department, the project involves removing a bridge crane and overhauling two other similar platforms.
The service branch will obligate the full value of the modification from its fiscal 2021 operation and maintenance funds.
