Christopher Kastner, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII), has been promoted as chief operating officer and he will oversee the military shipbuilder's three operating divisions.
HII said Friday Ingalls Shipbuilding CFO Thomas Stiehle will succeed Kastner as finance chief of the company and both appointments are effective Feb. 21.
“These changes are being made to signal our continued and strong commitment to performance and execution, to better reflect the business dynamics associated with our historic $45 billion backlog, and in recognition of the importance of the Navy’s new long-range shipbuilding plan,” said Mike Petters, president and CEO of HII and a previous Wash100 awardee.
Kastner, who assumed the CFO position in March 2016, is responsible for HII’s corporate strategy and business management functions. He also worked for Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) as Shipbuilding-Gulf Coast CFO.
Stiehle previously served as VP of contracts and pricing for Ingalls Shipbuilding and held a 24-year career within Northop's aerospace business before he joined HII in 2011.
