Siemens Government Technologies (SGT) has appointed Tony Hemmelgarn, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Siemens Digital Industries Software, to its board of directors, the company reported on Tuesday.
“With the increasingly complex interdependency of software and systems trusted for vital government missions, we are excited to have Tony bring his leadership, experience and board insights to SGT,” said Anne Altman, IBM’s federal business leader, senior executive and SGT board chairman.
Hemmelgarn joined Siemens in 2001, and throughout his career with the company, he has helped establish Siemens’ Xcelerator software portfolio. The portfolio has enabled Siemens to help companies create and leverage digital twins that provide new insights, opportunities and levels of automation to drive innovation.
He also served as Siemens executive vice president of Global Sales, Marketing and Services before his position as president and CEO of Digital Industries Software. In his previous role, Hemmelgarn worked in partnership with Siemens Digital Industries Software’s zone sales leaders to target geographic, industry and strategic corporate opportunities.
In addition, Hemmelgarn was senior vice president and managing director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). He has also held the United States country management and senior vice president of the Industry Vertical Organization.
Prior to joining Siemens, Hemmelgarn served with Intergraph in a variety of senior leadership positions, progressing from technical management to regional technical director and director of Sales and Marketing.
Joining Hemmelgarn on the board of directors is Anne Altman, board chair; Bob Coutts, retired Lockheed Martin executive vice president; Lieutenant General John Sylvester, U.S. Army retired; and Axel Meier, CFO for the Smart Infrastructure operating company of Siemens AG.
“Government leaders working at the crossroads of sustainment for legacy systems and rapid acceleration of new systems and production methodologies require an advanced software-driven digital value chain solution that Siemens is uniquely qualified to offer,” Altman added.
