A BAE Systems subsidiary has been awarded a potential $189.3M contract to help the U.S. Navy update and maintain a remotely-controlled system used to destroy mine threats.
BAE Systems Surface Ships Ltd. will incorporate new technology into the branch's Archerfish Destructor mine neutralization platform and evaluate the application of system configuration to in-service modernization efforts, the Department of Defense said Friday.
The firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, and cost-only contract has an initial value of $19.9M and will reach its potential value if all options are exercised.
DoD expects the company to finish work by January 2023.
According to BAE, the Archerfish neutralizer has functioned as a key component of the Navy’s airborne mine neutralization system since 2007.
