TYSONS CORNER, VA, July 6, 2020 — Relativity Space was selected to deploy as many as ground spare satellites for Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM) on an on-demand basis under a launch contract signed between the two companies, ExecutiveBiz reported June 25.
The companies said in a June 24 joint statement Relativity will use its 3D-printed orbital rocket Terran 1 for deployment missions slated to take place no earlier than 2030.
Matt Desch, CEO of Iridium and a 2020 Wash100 awardee, said the Terran 1 platform fits the satellite operator's low-Earth orbit launch requirements.
"We know based on our previous experience that there are great benefits to engaging with a provider early on during development of the launch vehicle and it evolving around our particular needs."
