Barbara Doherty, a three-decade government contracting veteran, has been named VP of contracts and procurement at Herndon, Va.-based government services provider Akima.
She will oversee procurement, subcontracting and corporate contract functions in her new position, Akima said Tuesday.
Doherty most recently served as corporate VP of contracts at PAE and led the Falls Church-based company's contracting activities and its national security solutions business.
She also worked as PAE VP for global supply chain management for two years and held similar leadership roles at Chenega and U.S. Investigation Services.
Bill Monet, president and CEO of Akima and a 2020 Wash100 Award recipient, said Doherty brings significant expertise in managing contracts for large and small business entities as the company looks to grow its customer base.
Prior to entering the private sector, Doherty worked for the Defense Logistics Agency and the departments of Transportation and the Navy.
The National Contracts Management Association certified her a professional contract manager.
