Caddell Construction has secured a potential $275.5M contract from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to build 14 miles of security wall in Webb County, Texas, for Laredo Sector border patrol agency.
CBP said Friday it will fund the project with fiscal 2020 appropriations and expects construction work to begin by January next year.
The company will construct a 30-foot steel bollard system along with all-weather roads and enforcement zone equipment such as lighting and cameras.
CBP seeks to increase Laredo Sector agents' ability to control smuggling, transnational crime and crossing activities along the border. Agents have apprehended more than 21K illegal aliens and seized more than 19K pounds of illegal drugs since the beginning of the government's current fiscal year, the agency noted.
