Naval Sea Systems Command and the program executive office unmanned and small combatants held a virtual industry day to discuss with industry stakeholders the requirements for the design and production of a maritime mine deployment platform.
The Hammerhead system is designed to detect and home in on anti-submarine warfare targets and can be fielded from an unmanned underwater vehicle, NAVSEA said Monday.
Sixteen companies took part in the event to know more about the Hammerhead program.
Rear Adm. Casey Moton, program executive officer for USC, said Hammerhead is classified as a Navy Maritime Accelerated Acquisition initiative and a Middle Tier Acquisition Rapid Prototyping Program.
The Navy plans to issue the final solicitation for the Hammerhead prototype development effort later this year and intends to award the design and testing contract for up to 30 prototypes by fiscal year 2021. The service expects delivery of operational prototypes by the end of FY 2023.
