TYSONS CORNER, VA, March 31, 2020 — Keith Johnson, vice president and general manager of Spire Global‘s federal business, said the company has embarked on data-driven projects that support the government’s maritime domain awareness and transportation operations, ExecutiveBiz reported March 16.
The company received funding from the Department of Defense to create the WAASP dashboard that allows DoD clients to take weather conditions into account when predicting delivery routes, Johnson wrote in a blog post published March 11.
He noted that Spire also offers the Dynamic AIS, a service that helps maritime customers save fuel and schedule docking by enabling them to merge data from satellites and Earth-based sources to mitigate data gaps.
Johnson added that the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency chose Spire’s satellite design to gather geomagnetic data for the Worldwide Magnetic Model, a completed project that aimed to map the Earth’s magnetic field to aid navigation.
