Ball Aerospace Gets $255M Modification for Weather System Follow-on Microwave

Ball Aerospace and Technologies has received a $255.4M firm-fixed-price contract modification to continue development and fabrication work for the U.S. Air Force‘s Weather System Follow-on Microwave program for a low-Earth orbit satellite.

The modification is the result of an exercised option and raises the contract‘s cumulative value to $349M, the Defense Department said Thursday.

USAF will obligate funds taken from fiscal 2018 research, development, test and evaluation allotments to finance the follow-on services.

Work will take place in Boulder, Colo. through Jan. 15, 2023.

The WSF-M technology is designed to provide environmental intelligence for warfighters and address challenges in ocean surface vector winds, tropical cyclone intensity and energetic charged particle characterization in space weather.
