TYSONS CORNER, VA, Nov. 2, 2017 ” General Atomics is exploring the integration of automation technology into the MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle as part of efforts to update and boost the performance of the platform, ExecutiveBiz reported Monday.

National Defense Magazine reported Friday that Darren Moe, senior director of automation and user experience mission systems at General Atomics, indicated the company’s interest in “disruptive” autonomous capabilities through an internal research and development project.

Chris Pehrson, vice president of strategic development at General Atomics, also noted that the first blocks of the Reaper drones with the U.S. Air Force will not be given as surplus equipment to foreign military customers or other U.S. agencies.
