TYSONS CORNER, VA, Oct. 2, 2017 Boeing (NYSE: BA) has partnered with nonprofit organization Docs Friends to help build an interactive hangar and education facility for a company-manufactured B-29 Superfortress bomber aircraft dubbed “Doc,” GovCon Executive reported Sept. 25.
Doc’s Friends said Sept. 23 Boeing has granted a gift to support the $6.5 million project and was on hand to help break ground on the future 32,000-square-foot B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center at the Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita, Kansas.
“This gift not only highlights the revolutionary advances in technology that were embodied in the B-29 but also recognizes the countless individuals who designed, built and flew this magnificent machine,” said Leanne Caret, president and CEO of Boeings defense, space and security division.
“Its our hope that visitors of every age will come away with a better understanding of history as well as a greater appreciation for the opportunities that lie ahead in aerospace and beyond,” Caret, an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 for 2017, added.
