August 7th Morning Report: Friday Close – Markets End Week Up on Strong July Employment Numbers


Markets responded positively to July employment reports which beat expectation.

The Executive Mosaic GovCon Index (GCI) closed the week at 100.443 up 0.122 percent. At Friday’s close advancers outpaced decliners 18 to 12. The GCI was up 1.5 percent for the week.

The major indices closed up on Friday. The S&P500 gained 0.19 percent, while the DJIA set another new high at 22,092.81 up 0.30 percent, and the NASDAQ Composite moved upward by 11 points to close at 6,351.56. The DJIA closed at new highs each trading day last week.

Crude oil closed up Friday with WTI on the NY Mercantile Exchange closing at $49.43 per barrel, up 0.82 percent. WTI was off on the week by 1.5 percent.
