IAI Lands Nearly $2B in Surface-to-Air Missile Supply Contracts with India


Israel Aerospace Industries has secured contracts worth nearly $2 billion to provide two kinds of surface-to-air missile system to India.

IAI said Thursday it will supply the India’s army with a medium-range surface-to-air missile under a contract valued at $1.6 billion as well as build a long-range variant of the system for integration onto the country’s future aircraft carrier.

The Israeli state-owned company originally developed MRSAM for the Indian army in partnership with India’s defense research and development organization and Israel-based defense technology manufacturers Rafael and Elta.

India-based companies BEL, Larsen & Toubro and Bharat Dynamics Ltd. have also supported IAI on the project.

MRSAM is equipped with a mobile launcher, an advanced phased-array radar, a command-and-control system and missiles with radio-frequency seekers.

IAI President and CEO Joseph Weiss said the company has with India’s defense industry and military over the past 25 years.

Weiss added IAI currently develops technology platforms in support of the Make in India policy.
