General Atomics Continues Work on Module for ITER-Backed Tokamak Facility

TYSONS CORNER, VA, Feb. 17, 2017 — General Atomics is scheduled to conduct a heat treatment process on the Central Solenoid electromagnetic structure’s initial module in March in support of the 35-nation ITER research and development project, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

The company said Wednesday it has fused an estimated 240,000 pounds of superconductor in an effort to build the first module, which will serve as part of the core of a tokamak facility designed to generate fusion energy.
