ATK (NYSE: ATK) has appointed Jay Tibbets, senior vice president of business development, to serve as SVP and president of the sporting group on an interim basis.

The company said the move was effective Friday, one day after Ronald Johnson stepped down as head of the Anoka, Minn.-based business group.

“Jay is a strategic leader who has more than a decade of experience working with the sporting group, ” said Mark DeYoung, president and CEO. “He was a key member of the leadership team that integrated Blount International into ATK following the 2001 acquisition.”

DeYoung said Tibbets brings knowledge and familiarity with the sporting group’s strategy, customers, products and marketing initiatives.

Tibbets joined the company in 2000 and has served as SVP of business development since 2010, where he oversees domestic and international market expansion strategies.

ATK said he has led strategy and business development organizations supporting strategic growth initiatives.

He serves on the board of directors for ATK joint venture American Ordnance LLC and on the board of trustees for the National Defense Industrial Association.
